1. Our approach
- An adult account holder, who must be at least 18, creates the account. Children never sign up or sign in on their own.
- We collect as little about a child as we need to tell the story, and nothing for advertising.
- There is no social feature, chat, public profile, photo upload or link from a child profile to the wider internet.
- There is no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking software in our app.
2. Parent and guardian consent
By creating a profile you tell us you are the child’s parent or legal guardian, or have their guardian’s permission, and you agree to us handling the profile information described here so that the child can use the Service. We confirm you are an adult account holder who controls the email address through the one-time code we send to it, and by your agreement to our Terms and, when paid plans start, a payment made by an adult.
If we ever want to use a child’s information in a way that goes beyond this notice, we will ask for your consent first. If you believe a child has created or been given a profile without a guardian’s permission, email us and we will delete it.
3. What we collect about a child
For each profile:
- a nickname you choose (we recommend not using a full name);
- a date of birth, to suggest suitable stories and to understand who the Service is used by;
- a gender option, to personalise the experience; and
- an avatar picked from our list.
While the child listens, we also record which stories they open, how far they get, favourites, likes and dislikes, downloads, the days they listen and badges earned. This is used only to keep their place, to personalise the library, to run the Service and to improve it in aggregate. See the Privacy Policy for the full list.
4. What we never do
- We do not sell or rent children’s information, or share it with advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not show advertising to children or use their information for behavioural or targeted advertising.
- We do not ask a child for more information than needed to use the Service, or reward a child for giving more.
- We do not collect precise location, photos, voice recordings, contacts or advertising identifiers.
- We do not let a child share information publicly or contact other people through the Service.
- We do not use children’s information to train AI systems.
- We disclose it only to the service providers listed in the Privacy Policy that host the Service for us, under contract and only to run Funky Fables.
5. Your controls
As the parent or guardian you can, at any time:
- see the information in each profile, and correct it by editing the profile in the app or on the website;
- delete a child’s profile, which removes their information and listening history;
- delete the whole account;
- refuse to allow us to collect more information about your child, by removing the profile or stopping use; and
- ask us to give you a copy of what we hold about your child, or to take any of these actions for you, by emailing support@funkyfables.com from the account’s email address. We may ask you to confirm it is you first.
Because a child can only be reached through your signed-in device, you decide when and where they use the Service. We encourage you to supervise their use and keep your device unlocked only when you are comfortable.
6. Retention and deletion
We keep a child’s information only while the profile exists and the account is active. If you delete a profile or the account, the information is deleted immediately, and any copies in backups expire within 35 days. Accounts unused for 24 months are deleted after a warning email. We keep a minimal record only where the law requires it (for example, billing records for the account holder), and never for a child’s profile information.
7. App store family programs
Funky Fables is designed to meet the requirements of the Apple Kids Category and Google Play’s Designed for Families program, including limits on third-party tracking and advertising, a privacy policy, and a way for an account holder to delete their account. We also follow the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the GDPR and UK Children’s Code principles, and the Australian Privacy Act.
8. Contact
Questions or requests about a child’s information: support@funkyfables.com. For Australian complaints, you may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au). US parents may contact the Federal Trade Commission (ftc.gov).
